St. Charles is one of the most architecturally distinctive communities in Kane County, defined by the Fox River and a historic downtown that has been carefully preserved. The housing stock ranges from late-19th and early-20th-century Victorian and Foursquare homes near the river to mid-century neighborhoods that filled in during the 1950s and 1960s, plus extensive newer subdivision development in the western and southern reaches of the city.
